Thirty-five [1988–2015]
These photographs were taken on different occasions and represent temporally and spatially unrelated subjects. The title Thirty-five is not related to the number of photographs, but to the 35 mm film format, which used to be the ultimate and most popular photographic medium. More economical and less demanding compared to other, larger formats, thirty-five millimetre film is the material of choice for obtaining spontaneous, unburdened photographs.
Comprising journal-like notes, a travelogue, but also the result of direct observation of everyday life, Thirty-five remains an open framework of relatively few images selected from a much larger body of work. The relations established between individual images function as a generator for potential meaning that is both limited and elusive. [MV]
